We are delighted to have consigned a number of works by Dame Laura Knight DBE RA RWS (4 August 1877 – 7 July 1970). The most notable of the collection is lot 63, a beautiful watercolour by Knight, which has attracted worldwide attention from collectors, and we therefore believe may exceed the £6000-8000 pre-sale estimate.

Knight was an English artist who worked in oils, watercolours, etching, engraving and drypoint. She was a painter in the figurative, realist tradition, who embraced English Impressionism and in her long career, she became one of the most successful and popular painters in Britain. Her success in the male-dominated British art establishment paved the way for greater status and recognition for women artists, which is ever increasing today.

For those who cannot reach the price tag of an original watercolour, there are a number of pencil sketches, and aquatints signed by Knight, which are more affordable, and yet still highly collectable. We can only envisage that these wonderful examples will be investments of the future.
