Scientific & Musical Instruments

We sell a wide range of scientific items such as microscopes, slides, telescopes, barometers and drawing instruments. Binocular microscopes are especially popular, with some fetching thousands. Some of our most interesting items in this specialist field were sold in our auction The Chemists Collectables: The Estate of W. Allen & Sons of Oadby, which included incredible 19th century apothecary jars and cabinets, microscopes and specimen slides, pharmaceutical weight sets, which attracted collectors from around the world and ultimately made for an exciting auction!

Naval instruments such as sextants and octants have always been desirable items for collectors and are a regular feature in our auctions as well as the classics such as the stick barometer which are still much sought after by our buyers. Orreries and Globes have fascinated scientific collectors and enthusiasts for centuries and are also highly desirable, as are vampire killing kits – one of which we sold for £2,200 in August 2020.

Opthamic Glass Eyes. Sold for £420

Musical instruments are sold in our specialist sales, and include stringed, brass, percussion and woodwind instruments, as well as Grand pianos. Names such as Bechstein , Steinway, Bluthner are what makes for strong hammer prices, with our most recent example being the well renowned maker Joseph Guarnerius of the Guarneri Family of Violin Makers which we sold for £1800. We were pleased to see this example returning to its home country of Italy after the buyer had seen it advertised on our European bidding platform Druot.
