When a large private Leicestershire collection of toys came through Stamford Auction Rooms doors, the opportunity for a successful sale was very apparent, with some of the most rare and interesting toys and toy collectables that we have seen in recent years.
With a fantastic collection of toys from Dolls Houses to Doctor Who there were some fabulous and rare items coming under the hammer at Stamford Auction Rooms in the first auction of 2024, including this very rare Dinky Commercial Aircraft set number 4, with original box.
Lot 14
Produced for a very short period of time in 1949-1950 as a special or Christmas set, this is one of the rarest set's of Dinky Aircraft ever made, and in such good condition attracted lots of attention from collectors across the world, finally selling for a hammer price of £2,600.
In a fantastic lot of play figures, including the Lone Ranger, Tonto, Spock and Action Man it was the rarity of some that seized the imagination of collectors, taking it to a final price of £500, selling online:

When Del-Boy was marketing his next greatest wheez of selling Peckham Spring Water he could hardly have imagined that one day a single bottle would sell for thousands of pounds, which is just what it did today at Stamford Auction Rooms, where not just one, but two bottles of this famous tipple from the Christmas Special of Only Fools and Horses sold for £1,800 each!
