From the Estate of Frederick Edward Marshall Mechanic to their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester 1950-2000: a family photograph signed by the Prince Henry Duke of Gloucester and Princess Alice the Duchess of Gloucester, dated 1951, a further thank you card with photographs of the Duke and Duchess, signed, a letter to Mrs Marshall from Her Royal Highness Princess Alice Duchess of Gloucester thanking her for her eightieth birthday present, a Worcester Golden Jubilee pin dish, given from the same to Mr and Mrs Marshall, with a card, to mark her 100th Birthday, a programme for and photographs of that celebration, including family and Queen Elizabeth II with Princess Alice, and invitations for Mr and Mrs Marshall to attend the funeral of His late Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester KG, on Friday 14th June 1974 and also the funeral of Her Royal Highness Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester on Friday, 5th November 2004, both at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, and with the relevant Orders of Service and Ceremonial and letters of bequest to Frederick Marshall on the death of His Royal Highness Prince Henry the Duke of Gloucester, and of Her Royal Highness. Malcolm Evans, Clock Collector, The History
Malcolm grew up in a miner’s cottage in Skewen, South Wales and studied for his A Levels by candlelight as his childhood home had no electricity. This deprivation lead to a contrary spirit of generosity as an adult and he loved his British Horological Society pals and sharing his knowledge and skills. His education at Neath Grammar School gave him a passion for science and subsequent medical training at Bristol University lead him to a career in surgery. This lead him to fixing precious things in his spare time and he was a keen horologist for the last 45 years of his life. He amassed a wonderful collection of clocks, watches, tools and antiques and a huge collection of books associated with his passion. Whilst the taste was eclectic and rarely based on the fashionable he purchased many beautiful items from Bonds Barn, Hemswell and auctions and brought many of them back to life using traditional materials and methods.
