A George VI naval mid-shipman's sword circa 1937, with wire bound shagrin grip, lions head pommel, and original silk knotted cord, the swept guard with central Royal Navy insignia and acorn finials and locking plate, to the leather and brass bound scabbard named for P. Bullard, blade etched almost to the tip with naval insignia and Royal coat of arms to one side, the other with Royal insignia of George VI below crown, both with sunburst and acanthus scrolls and strapwork decoration throughout, no apparent makers mark, complete with original kid lined cover, and a Gieves Ltd, Officer of the Watch, leather bound, naval telescope, the collar named for P. Bullard R. N., makers name and numbered 9534. Provenance: P. Bullard joined the Royal Navy in 1937 and reached the rank of Lieutenant when his ship HMS Bedouin was bombarded and finally torpedoed June 1942, en route as part of a convoy to Malta, survived, was captured and imprisoned in Italy, on promotion to Lieutenant, his midshipman's sword and watch telescope had stayed at home and so survived the attack.
