Jessica’s love affair with all things antique began in a workshop, where she completed a Fine Art & Furniture Restoration apprenticeship, which provided her with a true insight into all periods of furniture and art, in particular early English examples, which is where her true passion and interest lies.

The progression into the auction world was a natural one from the experience already gained from antiques themselves, but, rather than a workshop in the country, she headed to Bond Street, London where she worked as a saleroom assistant, working her way up through the ranks. Jessica was then headhunted by Wilkinson’s Auctioneers, an auction house that specialises in Early English and Continental oak furniture and works of art, and could not resist the temptation to work once again with her favourite collecting field.

Jessica has worked for several auction houses within the UK, amassing 20 years experience in all collecting fields together with a valuable insight into how each auction house operated before taking the plunge and opening her own saleroom; Stamford Auction Rooms, which is the only female run auction house in Lincolnshire and beyond.

Her success, by her own admission is down to sheer hard work and experience, but she also takes a forward thinking, fresh approach to auctioneering and concept of ‘The Auction House’ whilst also keeping the valuable aspects of the auction worlds grass roots, and this is why Stamford Auction Rooms has become so popular with both buyers and sellers, ‘people enjoy our less stuffy style of auctioneering, and more relaxed approach with our clients, making people feel welcome rather than intimidated within the auction environment’.

Jessica is also very sensitive to the fact that she often attends peoples homes to assess items, and in certain circumstances this can be difficult for the client. Her awareness has lead to people feeling very reassured and comfortable with the auction process, and is upheld with her friendly and approachable team.

Jessica reminds people that selling at auction is the best way of realising the true value of your items because the items are placed on an open market. Unlike selling privately to ‘awaiting buyers/collector’s’ who will provide a fixed price, often at less than generous prices, to sell on for a profit themselves, Jessica says that ‘ the vendor and the auctioneer are on the same team – the more profit the vendor makes, the more commission we make, and that’s a winning combination’.

Jessica undertakes a great deal of charity work, she regularly give talks and lectures to local groups and conducts charity auctions and events, the latest was hosted by Earl Spencer at his Althorp Estate where she raised over £10,000 for the Army Benevolent Fund.

You may see Jessica on television, as co-host of Channel 4's The Auctioneers, ITV's The Antiques Road Trip, and as an expert appraiser on the new series of Cash in the Attic on C5 beginning in August 2022.
