In these times of financial uncertainty it was fabulous to see the silver section of the sale at Stamford Auction Rooms make strong and solid prices across the board, with Georgian and later flatwares making top estimates and above, whilst the more decorative Dutch pieces attracting wide appreciation and consistently selling over estimate. English fine silver was not to be left out, with this fantastic silver jug with lion form handle, which sold for £950.

The flurry in the silver section got thoroughly furious with a collection of fur and feathered designs, including this fabulous pair of owls, by Sampson Mordon Co, selling for £240, this stunning solid silver hare, which sold for £340, and this William Comyns and Sons Ltd silver salt and spoon in the form of an owl which sold for £380.

The final section of the silver and jewellery part of the sale though was dedicated to an unusual collection of enamelled cigarette cases, including these racing examples which sold for £700, and £600 respectively and this pretty example decorated with a nude female bathing in the sea, selling for £550, well over the £260-£380 estimate.
