Fine Art Flourishes in Stamford Auction Rooms October Auction

With a fantastically full and varied sale at Stamford Auction Rooms this October, it was Fine Art that flew to top the sale on Saturday, with this stunning oil of Aberglaslyn Near Beddeelcert, North Wales, by Alfred Fontville de Breanski which sold for £3,600, featured below.

 

Whilst this captivating portrait of a lady by George Henry Harlow (1787-1819) sold for twice the estimate at £1,300.

Earlier in the sale a fascinating archive of letters to the musicologist, violinist, critic and champion of women in music Marion Scott garnered a great deal of interest finally selling to a telephone bidder for £1,500.

Woodland creatures also saw something of a surge in the sale as this pair of 19th century Staffordshire squirrels sold for an astounding £2,000, and this adorable Black Forest bear pedestal
table soared to £1,500. The gavel coming down in the hands of the newest member of the team at Stamford Auction Rooms, Sophie Chapman, who took to the rostrum like a duck to water.

With fabulous beasts, Fine Art and Sculpture all coming to the fore it bodes well for Stamford Auction Rooms next sale – a two parter, one of which will be a special Gallery sale for a fantastic
collection from a local esteemed gallery including works by Marc Chagall, Joan Miro, Alistair Grant, David Hockney, Graham Sutherland and Michael Rothenstein, as well as animalistic bronzes by various sculptors, including renowned contemporary artist Simon Gudgeon.


Both the Gallery Sale and the next Antiques, Collectables and Fine Furniture sale will be held on 27th November 2021.
